Life Flight – An initiative supported by D9940 Children’s Health Trust.
'Life Flight', is set up at the new northern operating base for Life Flight at Hamilton Airport. This new base allows them to provide regular emergency air cover for the majority of New Zealand. In fact, at times they are called to assist in emergencies or provide collaborative cover for all over New Zealand.
When visiting NZ in June 2024, RI President Gordon spoke candidly about the enhancement of emergency cover throughout New Zealand due to this initiative, and the importance of the Rotary contribution. He also listened to the needs of the Life Flight crews and saw great value in their aims to be able to fund and provide simulated training to their pilots and crew. Simulated training is a capability that they do not currently have, which means that when training is needed, their aircraft capacity and therefore emergency services are significantly reduced.
Life Flight are extremely appreciative of the support of Rotary, and there are several aspects of the Life Flight operation and service to New Zealanders that a collective Rotary initiative could enhance. Life Flight are recognising the partnership by displaying a Rotary logo on their aircraft. This Rotary support will be recognised and visible to all New Zealanders. Life Flight are a much loved entity in New Zealand, and most families and communities will be aware of someone who has been the benefactor of life saving care from the Life Flight team.
Districts 9940, and 9930, now have Life Flight operating bases at airports within their geographical areas, and are in initial discussions to have both of districts work on funding and Rotary Foundation grant initiatives to support our Rotary partnership with Life Flight.
Rotary Oceania ROZops Ltd have approved that Life Flight will be one of their charities and therefore will be highlighted on the Rotary Oceania donation page.
