CAFW is the flagship initiative of the strategic partnership, announced in January 2024, between Rotary and the UNEP. CAFW D9999 is the NZ South Island group, started in October 2023.
What are the activities of CAFW?
Supports restoration, protection and monitoring freshwater ecosystems and regeneration through working with local communities.
Working with the community .
We are working with the Styx Living Laboratory Trust (SLLT,) a local Christchurch river care group, which was established in 2000. The Trust has since encompassed a role of the guardianship and advocacy for the waterway and the biodiversity of the surrounding land as a living part of the Canterbury landscape. https://www.thestyx.org.nz/ Some of the joint activities include the School Biodiversity Education Project in Christchurch for 525 students from 9 local schools, Kaitaia planting sessions and the Citizen Science Water Testing project (March 2005 to March 2027).
In August 2024, we joined the Community Partnership (Christchurch), a 48-organization group which work s collaboratively for cleaner and healthier rivers.
