The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is your Rotarian development programme.  It is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day or whole of one-weekend courses that provide Rotarians and Rotaractors with a breadth of Rotary knowledge and professional development they can put into practical every-day use in clubs and districts. RLI courses are fun, topical and geared to ensure participants gain an understanding of how the programmes and resources of Rotary at all levels interconnect and can be accessed, while encouraging participants to contribute their own life and Rotary experiences through discussion and practical exercises to reinforce knowledge gained.
RLI courses are for Rotarians and Rotaractors with an enthusiasm for Rotary who are either new to Rotary / Rotaract (ideally in their first year of membership), or likely to take up future leadership opportunities in their clubs, ranging from President through to a project or event team leader.  Please note that longer serving Rotarians also gain great value from the RLI course, as often they will have depth of Rotary knowledge in some specific areas, but lack breadth of Rotary knowledge and experience, so this is why an increasing number of RLI districts throughout the world are asking incoming Assistant Governors, District Committee Chairs and Presidents to complete an RLI course prior to their year(s) in office.
RLI module topics taken by various experienced RLI Facilitators include:
Part 1 - Insights into Leadership; My Rotary World; Engaging Members; Ethics and Vocational Service; Our Foundation; plus Creating Service Projects.
Part 2 - Strategic Planning and Analysis; Attracting Members; Targeted Service; Club Communication; plus Team Building.
Part 3 - Rotary Opportunities; International Service; Public Image and Public Relations; Effective Leadership Strategies; Building a Stronger Club; and Making a Difference.
RLI participants are usually nominated to attend by their club President or President Elect, and commit to completing the three one-day courses, either within a two year time frame, or during one weekend, and to being active participants during the course. They need to be active members of their club, but do not necessarily need to have "good Rotary knowledge", as they will gain Rotary Learning and Information through RLI.
Hopefully every club will nominate at least two members (or more if appropriate) every year to attend RLI. Enthusiastic RLI graduates return to their club with fresh ideas, an increased understanding of their potential as Rotarians / Rotaractors, new contacts, and valuable skills to support whatever future role(s) they may have within the club, at work and/or in the community.
District 9920 also holds an annual RLI Graduate programme (one-day seminar) for Rotarians / Rotaractors from any NZ Pacific Rotary District 9910-9980 who have compeleted RLI Parts 1, 2 and 3.  The RLI Graduate programme focuses on Transforming your Rotary Club while Becoming an Extraordinary Rotarian / Rotaractor.  Module topics include: Being Coachable; Listening; Actions; The Said and Unsaid Complaints; Change; Past and Future-Based Thinking and Conversations; Evaluating Your Rotary / Rotaract Club; Creating a Perfect 10 Club; The 'Game' of Rotary; Integrity; and The Impact Ladder.
