Watch the video to gain an understanding about being a Rotarian
Rotary is an international membership organisation made up of people who share a passion for and commitment to enhancing local communities and improving lives across the globe. Rotary members join clubs by invitation. With some 35,000 clubs around the world, and others that meet online, Rotary makes it easy to get involved and start making a difference today.
Rotary members are men and women across all age ranges from the young professional (a rapidly growing membership segment!) to the more experienced (including retired), diverse across backgrounds and cultures joined together with a passion for community service and friendship.
Why should I join a Rotary club?
At Rotary, we bring our diverse backgrounds and unite to exchange new ideas, apply expertise, and implement improvements that transform communities. Our members work locally and partner on international projects that address today’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.
Becoming a Rotarian connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back to:
- Discuss your community's needs and discover creative ways to meet them
- Expand your leadership and professional skills
- Catch up with good friends and meet new ones
- Connect with leaders from all continents, cultures, and occupations
While club usually meet weekly they do recognise that members have lives and commitments outside of Rotary although there is an expectation that members will be regularly involved in club activities and projects. The impact our members make takes shape at Rotary club meetings and activities. These gatherings give you the chance to:
- Change lives. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss and act upon your community’s greatest needs.
- Connect with other passionate people. Rotary club meetings are a place to strengthen connections to friends and neighbours and form meaningful relationships that last a lifetime.
- Invest in yourself. Through our district and club network, we offer workshops, conferences, guest speakers, and more – all aimed at helping you grow personally and professionally.
I want to join
Tell us a little about yourself, and we’ll let clubs in your community know you're interested in learning more about membership. Include as much information as you can about yourself and your preferences to help us find the right club for you.

The Membership Process
Each club has a unique personality and focus. We can help you find a club that fits your interests, location, and availability. Visiting a club under this process is at no-obligation by you or the club to take the process further.
The following describes the process where an enquiry has been received by a district but it may be clubs are contacted direct.
Matched with a club:
We'll review your club meeting preferences and other information and forward it to Rotary contacts in your area so they can also learn about your interests and match you with a club.
Contacted by club:
A member of a local Rotary club will contact you, by email or phone, to discuss your interest in joining. You may be invited to a club meeting, social event, or even to volunteer on a service project.
Most clubs would welcome an approach for you to find out more about membership and may invite you for a no-obligation visit and if you think Rotary is for you, then let this be known.
Invited to join:
If you and your prospective club are a good fit, you’ll be invited to join. After you accept, your club might hold an induction ceremony to welcome you and commemorate this important event. Every club has its own traditions and ways of welcoming new members.
I'm a member!
Make the most of your membership. Join a committee. Lead a service project. Organise a social event. Be the change you want to see in the world.
